About

When you enter the School, there is a feeling of warmth, history and possibility. It is tucked away on 1.25 acres of land in the village of Scotsville, centrally located in Inverness County near beautiful Lake Ainslie. It is accessible from the Trans Canada at We’koqma’q/Whycocomagh the Margarees on Rt 395, and Rt 19 between Mabou and Inverness. SSC is a home for craft, community, and culture, weaving together generations of local knowledge.

Verna MacMillan, founder, weaver, quilter.

Scotsville School of Crafts, the home of the Lake Ainslie Weavers and Craft Guild, has a long legacy of bringing together and growing the weaving and fibre arts community of Inverness County and beyond. The guild hosted its first weaving programs in 1984, and founding members are still active in the school today. SSC was later formed in 1993, when the Municipality of the County of Inverness sold the Guild the building for a nominal fee.
